Smoke alarm compliance

Every Queensland home needs compliant smoke alarms by 2027

Interconnected photoelectric alarms, in the right places, all sounding together — that's the law for rentals and sales now, and for every home from 1 January 2027. We check, install and certify across Gladstone and surrounds.

What the law requires

Every home by 2027

From 1 January 2027, every Queensland dwelling must have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms — in each bedroom, in hallways that connect bedrooms to the rest of the house, and on every storey. When one sounds, they all sound.

Rentals — already in force

Rented homes have had to meet the interconnected standard at each new or renewed tenancy since 2022, with alarms tested and any dud replaced within 30 days before the tenancy starts. If you manage or own a rental that has changed hands since then, it should already comply.

Selling — already in force

Homes sold since 2022 must comply at transfer. Non-compliance gets picked up in contract disclosures and building inspections, and becomes a negotiation point you don’t want.

Summary only — the full requirements are in the Fire Services Act and QFD guidance. We quote against what your specific home or rental actually needs.

What we do

  • Compliance check of your existing alarms against the current standard
  • Supply and install of interconnected photoelectric alarms (AS 3786:2014)
  • Hardwired 240V alarms with battery backup, or 10-year sealed battery where wiring isn’t practical
  • Interconnection so every alarm sounds together
  • Placement to the rules: bedrooms, connecting hallways, every storey
  • Certificate of compliance for your records, body corporate or agency

Own or manage a rental?

Smoke alarm compliance is exactly the kind of job our online site access booking was built for — the tenant gets the confirmation directly and you stay copied in.

Don't leave it for December 2026

Every electrician in Queensland will be booked out doing these as the deadline lands. A compliance check now takes the guesswork out, and if your alarms already pass, we'll tell you that too.
